Description
Dr. Jala Rizeq, Senior Lecturer in Clinical Psychology at the University of Glasgow, will explore the association between early trauma and stress and lifespan mental health. Drawing on her research, she will discuss pathways from early trauma to lifespan mental health outcomes, focussing on the following areas:
- How childhood trauma can influence development and adult mental health.
- How early severe stress or trauma can sensitize people to challenges and stressors later in life.
- How early trauma can lead to difficulties managing emotions and to negative assumptions about the world.
- How can we promote recovery following early trauma.
This session will help you understand the long-term impact of childhood trauma and highlight ways to support recovery and mental wellbeing.
