Speaker bio
Frank Bruno MBE is arguably the UK’s best loved boxer. In his 1990s heyday, it was said that after Princess Diana, Frank was the most popular person in the UK.

He fought in an era when one belt was the one to win. His opponents were all well-known worldwide heavy hitters, and in 1989, he took on Mike Tyson in his most famous bout. Billed as UK v USA, even non-boxing fans were cheering on Frank.

He may not have won that fight, but Frank went on to carve out a career as an entertainer alongside his boxing fame.

In 1995, his boxing career reached its pinnacle when Frank won the World Championship against Oliver McCall. Sadly, it was to only last a few months as shortly lost his crown again to Mike Tyson.

After he retired from boxing, Frank continued in the entertainment business, making frequent TV appearances and taking up pantomime.

In 2003, Frank had a mental health breakdown which dogged his life for 15 years. Following this, he decided to talk openly about his problems and became a mental health campaigner.

His mental health charity, 'The Frank Bruno Foundation', now helps 1,000 people a month.
