Caitriona O’Brien (Cat) is a Safety Improvement Specialist with the Technical Authority at Network Rail. She leads on both the Road Risk and Fatigue Improvement programmes.
She has worked in the UK Rail Industry for eighteen years. In 2021 Cat set up the Rail Industry Bereavement Support Group and set about promoting empathy as a key tool in developing true equity and inclusivity, and in 2024 Cat won the Women in Rail Adeline Gin Unsung Hero Award for this work. Cat is the Chair of the RSSB’s Road Risk Group and works across the industry to promote improved awareness of fatigue and road risk, so that everyone, rail industry employees and other road users alike, can go home safely every day.
